It depends, some are allowed to get paid over 10 month period or a 12 month period.

No teachers get paid FOR the summer. Some school systems let you take your check in 12 month installments (where they basically hold on to some of it for you in case you aren't disciplined enough to save it yourself for the summer). So in a sense they are getting paid OVER the summer, but not FOR the summer.
